TETRA Solution

For professional TETRA communications

TETRA has been extremely popular in Australia, particularly within the Mining and Oil & Gas sectors. Future Systems has been involved in TETRA in Australia since the very start of the technology in Australia on projects with Gorgon, FMG, Kanmantoo Mine, Ichthys, Roy Hill  and many others.

TETRA grew through the 90s from GSM technology with similar features to GSM but in addition to features normally found in analogue trunked networks (such as group and broadcast calls).

TETRA remains a force in digital trunked technologies and Future Systems has partnered with a good selection of TETRA manufacturers such as Selex, DAMM and Hytera.

 TETRA System Architecture

The unique, modular system design of the innovative  TETRA solution enables us to design the TETRA system exactly according to your specific requirements. The system design allows distributed as well as centralized architectures.

Centralized System Highlights

All the switching functions for voice, data and gateways to external systems are implemented at a centralized point in the system.

Distributed System Highlights

The switching and gateway function can be distributed to any desired point in the system. Apart from the increased flexibility, the distributed architecture offers an increased robustness of the systems avoiding the failure at individual locations.

Multiple Network architecture

Apart from centralized and distributed network architecture, TETRA system also support mixed network architecture (combine these two-network architecture) to maximum the network implementation flexibility.

Characteristics of the distributed switching function

  • Flexible deployment of switching and gateway function at any desired point in the system.
  • Highest robustness against failure of the transmission network by distributed intelligence.
  • It is flexible to rearrange the base stations and split the network sections
  • Useable for mobile deployment scenarios as needed in crisis situations or at major events.
  • It is cost-effective and suitable for small and medium scale network that the number of sites is less than 18.

Characteristics of the centralized switching architecture

  • The server hardware is cost-effective; the performance is powerful.
  • Central high capacity telephony and application gateways (SIP).
  • Fully redundant design of all critical components.
  • Optimised bandwidth on the radio sites.
  • It is suitable for any scale of network, from small network to national network, especially large scale of network

Tetra at a glance

Tetra (Terrestrial Trunked Radio) was standardised by ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) in 1995.  It is a mature, feature rich and well supported standard

Large nationwide and regional networks for public safety are in operation today as well as thousands of smaller on-site and regional networks for a wide range of applications including public transport, mining, Oil and Gas, Utilities, Ports and many more applications requiring a mature and robust solution.

Why Tetra

  • Tetra is the most mature digital trunking standard in the world
  • Tetra is specifically design and optimised to serve mission critical organisations and their users.
  • Tetra is scalable and allows networks to be built on both small and large scales even nation-wide.
  • Tetra systems are traditionally designed to incorporate extensive redundancy a multiple level thus eliminating any single point of failure.
