Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) is the newest of the digital radio standards specified for professional mobile radio (PMR) users and was developed by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) in 2005.
This standard is designed to operate within the existing 12.5kHz channel spacing used in licenced land mobile frequency bands globally. The primary goal is to provide an affordable digital system with low complexity. Having said that, DMR provides voice, data and other supplementary services and is not falling too short of TETRA – which has always been the premier digital technology available for enterprise and government use.
The DMR protocol covers licensed conventional (Tier II) and licensed trunked (Tier III) modes of operation.
Most major manufacturers of 2-way radio communication systems are offering DMR, including the majority of our suppliers.
